Website (tabs)

For the tabs on our website we have got 'HOME', 'ABOUT', 'TRAILER' and 'CONTACT'.
We have also included links to social networking sites (facebook and twitter) of Fluoxetine.
The 'CP' logo stands for chemical productions which is the production company we have created for our film.

HOME- The homepage is a general page for the website and will have a link to our trailer. The title on the homepage will have the Royal Air Force Roundel logo on the 'O' of Fluoxetine as an intertextual reference to the MOD culture.

ABOUT- The about section will have a brief description of our film to allow the audience to find out more about the trailer they are watching.

TRAILER- This section will have a large version of our trailer on enabling people to watch it without leaving the website.

CONTACT- This sections shows how we are using conventions of real media texts, as other film websites all have a contact page. This is more for visual aspects of out website.

Creating the Title

FLUOXETINE is the title of our film and it is a drug which increases serotonin (makes you happy). We have used the intertextuality of the Royal Air Force Roundel, which was commonly used by the mods and now represents them, in our title by putting the roundel in the 'O' of Fluoxetine.

This is shown in all of our media products (Trailer, Website and Film Poster).

Existing Media Texts (website)

Other websites that we looked at before creating ours include 'Les Miserables', 'Ted' and 'Life of Pi'.

The 'Life of Pi' website is interactive and plays automatic clips about the content of the film when you enter the website. We liked this aspect of the website and incorporated it into ours by using random clips which are played when you enter. We also liked the white text over the moving images and have used this in our website.

Another website we looked at was 'Ted', an aspect that we liked about this was that it included 'From the creator of Family Guy' which gives the audience the impression that it will be simular to Family Guy. Therefore people who like that genre of film are likely to enjoy this movie too.

We also looked at 'Les Miserables' and liked that the website included the award the film has recieved as a focal point on the homepage. We also liked that it was a simplistic and 'easy to use' website.

Importing an image into iMovie

We were having trouble importing an image into iMovie. We wanted to overlap the image of a Royal Air Force Roundel into the 'O' in the title of out trailer (FLUOXETINE). However everytime we attempted to place the image into out trailer it was not merging. We looked on YouTube and found a clip which explain how to do it and explained what we were doing wrong.

The reason that iMovie wouldnt let us import the image was that we did not have the advanced toolbar turned on which would allow us to put 'picture over picture'.

Website background

For our website background we used a moving image which is automatically play upon enterance of the website. The images chosen we images previously filmed when we filmed the footage for our trailer. The images are in an irrelevant order so that the content of the film is not given away, we also did not want people to think that this was the actual trailer. However in the footage we have used clips from all of the locations to show the transition of time through place and weather, for example, we have used different weather such as snow and sun to show that time has passed and he has changed over this time. These clips also include several action clips that we were unable to use in our trailer and wanted to show as a preview.

Homepage of the Website

For the homepage of our website we have used an automatic video of several unused clips from our filming. Thisi s played when you enter the website and acts as a background. We felt that this gave the website a professional look and replicates the genre and mise en scene of our trailer.
We put the title of our film over the video in white as it shows up well. We also showed intertexuality through the mod logo in the title which relates to the content of our film, for example, the boy following his mothers dreams of becoming a mod. We have shown the tagline of the film as is gives the audience information about what the film may be about and we have links to social network pages and other parts of the website. The production companies name is on own page 'Chemical Productions' as well as their logo as this is a convention of most film websites.

Certification (why we chose it)

After deconstructing several other films with similar genres to our, we felt that we would use an 18 certificate.

We chose an 18 certification as our film will include:

Strong violence, shown by the boy and his father fighting in our trailer and the boy fighting on the street.

Frequent strong language, in our first cut of our trailer we include the f-word which shows this, however we chose to take this out as it would not be appropriate to be shown on normal daytime television, our film will include strong language nevertheless.

Strong portrayals of sexual activity are evident in our trailer as the boy and girl fall into bed.

Discriminatory language and behaviour is another factor which is shown in our trailer as the boys behaviour shows aspects of him misbehaving and this will lead to other violent acts.

Similar films (Certification)

Quadrophenia:

Quadrophenia is a Seminal cult film about the snappily-dressed mods, riding scooters, popping pills, and fighting the hated rockers on the beaches of Brighton. The film has a similar genre to ours and has been very influential when creating our trailer. The certification of the film is 18 as in includes drug taking, violence, sexual activity and course language.

Fish Tank:

Fish Tank is a Youth Culture film about a young girl fighting with her mum and rebelling. The genre is similar to ours, along with the content. However we have used a young boy instead of a girl. The certification of the film is a 15 as it has strong language, violence and portrayals of sexual activity.

The Weekender:

The Weekender is another Youth Culture film about two young men on a  journey, as their success continues to grow, they attract a more dark and sinister world. The film is a 15 as it contains drug use, strong language and a mild portrayal of sexual activity.

Certification

The British Board of Film Classification guidelines (18)

18 works are for adults and can contain strong issues such as:
  • very strong violence
  • frequent strong language (eg 'f***') and/or very strong language (eg ‘c***’)
  • strong portrayals of sexual activity
  • scenes of sexual violence
  • strong horror
  • strong blood and gore
  • real sex (in some circumstances)
  • discriminatory language and behaviour
There can be strong and detailed portrayals of sex at 18, including full nudity. There are no constraints on nudity in a non-sexual or educational context.
Very strong, crude and explicit sex references are permitted at 18.
An 18 film or DVD might also contain depictions of real sex if it is justified by context, as long as the film or DVD is not a sex work.
At 18 drug taking may be shown but the work as a whole must not promote or encourage drug misuse.

(At first we thought we were going to have the cirtification as 15, but after creating our film trailer we decided to use an 18)

Film Awards

We want to use film awards in our trailer to create a more professional look and as it is a convention of real film trailers. Film awards are used in real film trailers to promote the film to the audience. As our trailer is a youth culture and is an 'indie' style, we want to use a recognisable but individual film award.

After researching other films with simular genres to ours, we have decided to use the official selection film award with the 'East End Film Festival' and then the 'SXSW Film Festival' awards.

Audience Feedback

After designing several posters we decided to ask people their opinions of them. We firstly showed them our trailer and then ask them which poster they felt fitted the genre and feel of the trailer best. We did this as we were slightly biased because we have created them and all had different favourites, we could also gain constructive criticism about what they liked and did not like about the posters.

Production company

We have been researching into other trailers production company openings and how we could use this in our trailer. Our production company is called 'Chemical Productions' as it goes with the content and meaning of our trailer, for example, the 'Chemical' aspect relates to the title of our film 'Fluoxetine'. It also ties in with the content in our find as it is about drugs and the effect of fluoxetine, a drug with increases serotonin (a happy chemical) in the body.
One idea of how we could use this in the production company opening is to have drugs falling and then the name 'Chemical Productions' falling along with the drugs onto the screen.

Above is an example of how we want it to look, however we are going to film it ourselves to reduce the likelihood of 'copyright'

Strapline

For our strapline/ tagline review (a branding slogan typically used in marketing materials and advertising) we want to create the 60s style of strapping to be used for promotional purposes.

An example of how we could use this is the 'POW' images used in comic books and cartoons, such as batman. However we would then change the words to a review of our trailer/ film, such as "The best mod film since Quadrophenia- The Daily Mail".

Artists such as Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein are major inspiration of the 60s pop art.

Using colour

This 2012 Tropfest short film finalist is similar to Fluoxetine in the way it is all about a boy and how it it mostly black and white.
We have been looking at this short film to see weather we should incorportae some colour into our trailer. In the short film it is incorporated by using lots of editing so one colour is shown at a time. However we are thinking of using colour in the title, or the reviews.
To see if this is a good idea we will experiment with out title in both B&W and with some colour.
We can also look at more 1960s mod films to see how and if they use colour.
