Todorov's Theory

Tzvetan Todorov simplified the idea of narrative theory whilst also allowing a more complex interpretation of film texts with his theory of Equilibrium and Disequilibrium.

The theory suggests:
The fictional environment begins with a state of equilibrium (everything is as it should be)
It then suffers some disruption (disequilibrium)
New equilibrium is produced at the end of the narrative

Our trailer follows some of these conventions, however, as it is a trailer, not everything in the film will be shown. The original state of equilibrium is before the mothers death, the disruption is the mothers death (disequilibrium) and the rest of the trailer shows the attempt to reinstate the original equilibrium. This is sone by the boy moving to Brighton and so on.
